How to Not Get Lost

There will be an in-person safety seminar teaching how to avoid getting lost while paddling.
This will include map and compass work. You will learn navigation techniques.

Bring a notebook and pen/pencil.
Bring your compass if you already have one. Some will be available for use.
Bring a topographical map if you already have one. Some will be available for use.

How to orient a map to the direction of travel
How to take a bearing
How to triangulate your position where possible
Map reading skills including Universal Transverse Mercator location
What is declination, how to calculate it and transpose the information onto a map
How to determine average travelling speed using a watch and a map
