RACCC WW Paddlers buzzing at Palmers Rapids
RACCC WW Paddlers buzzing at Palmers Rapids
July 12-13 weekend Palmers Rapids (3hrs drive west of Ottawa on the Madawaska) was buzzzzing with RA whitewater paddlers! A novice weekend and a beginner course weekend made for lots of learning and fun times.
The novice weekend folks made great strides under Dan and Sonja's tutelage. These were paddlers from past beginners WW courses and were hoping for a concentrated weekend of practice!
There were high spirits and lots of learning by the 14 Introduction to whitewater students. Thanks to Dot and Dagmar, aided by Tyson,Helen and Steffen, the students were able to cover all the material in the Paddle Canada curriculum: strokes, maneuvers: eddy turns, front and back ferries, back paddling as well as lessons on safety, river reading, river running, braces, portages, lining and tracking, paddling a swamped boat, how to safely swim in rapids. And of course, opportunities to practice canoe over canoe rescues :-).
A good time was had by all. As always, the company and food were great - a real RACCC tradition.
We are looking forward to welcoming the new whitewater paddlers to future trips.
Keep paddling folks!
