PADDLE CANADA CAMPING-TRIPPING TRAINING CERTIFICATION COURSES

1. Paddle Canada Camping Basics Certification

Camping Basics is an introduction to camping skills course for those with minimal or no camping experience.
Prerequisites: 
Certification Requirements: 
Attend Evening Camping Training Seminars
Other requirements to be posted soon.
(NOTE:  re: evening seminars:  basic navigation, advanced navigation, expedition module and group dynamics are useful but not required for this certification)

2. Paddle Canada Wilderness Camping Certification: 
Wilderness Camping (Tripping) training is for those who already have front country camping (tripping0 and paddling experience but would like to acquire the competencies necessary for wilderness travel as well as develop basic leadership and risk management skills.
Throughout the course, students will lead the group in various activities including navigation, meals, and camp set-up and take-down
Prerequisites:
Camping Basics certification or equivalent skill and knowledge at the discretion of the course director.5
A Paddle Canada canoeing (or kayaking) course appropriate to the camping course location (or equivalent skills and knowledge at the discretion of the course director.)
Wilderness first aid (minimum 16 hours) is strongly recommended.
A log demonstrating a minimum of 4 camping trips with a total combination of 8 nights or more camping with or without paddling

Attend all evening seminars
Participate in the Weekend Camping Trip. This weekend camping trip provides further camping skills training as well as practice skills learned during the
seminars.  Participants are guided by the course director to plan and prepare for the trip. Everyone is involved in the planning, preparation, packing, menu planning, food prep, transportation etc.
Location:  TBD - A campground within 1-2 hour drive of the RACCC Boat House.
Dates: TBD, Meet at the boathouse Friday at 5:00 PM, Return Sunday by 6:00 PM
Cost:  TBD     Includes all Evening Camping Skills Seminars, practical skills training day, Advance navigation seminar and practicum and camping weekend

3. Paddle Canada Camping Leadership Certification
Camping Leadership is an intermediate/advanced camping program for those who want to develop their leadership and group management skills. For example: leading groups of adults or children as a formal leader, or informally among friends and family.
Prerequisites:
At least 18 years of age.
Wilderness Camping certification, or equivalent experience and knowledge at the discretion of the course director.
A Paddle Canada skills course appropriate to the vessel used and conditions on which the camping course takes place, as outlined by the course director, or equivalent skills and knowledge at the discretion of the course director.
Current certification in wilderness first aid (minimum 16 hours).
Leave No Trace training strongly recommended.Minimum of 4 logged camping trips with a combined 12 nights or more of camping in a wilderness environment. (Two need to be a minimum of 4 days each - with or without paddling)
Requirements to gain certification:
Attend all evening seminars
Attend Advanced Navigation (includes: evening seminar and skills day)
Attend Camping Training Weekend Camping Trip (3 nights required - dates TBD)
