Calling all new trip leaders.  Karen H is sharing an excellent option for all interested in becoming a trip leader.  You must have completed introductory tandem and solo paddling skills courses.  Those with Paddle Canada equivalents are welcome.  ORCKA Basic or ORCKA Level 4 may be required to obtain the certification.  RACCC trip leaders do not require this certification but the skills learned will be useful.  RACCC trip leaders do not need ORCKA insurance.  They have RA insurance.  You do not need to be an ORCKA member or a RACCC member to take this training.  Connect with Bill Elgie for details.

 The ORCKA Day Trip Leader program provides a certification of competence in the planning and leadership of paddling based day trips in non-wilderness settings. This will be an online course with no paddling required for this leadership course. The Day Trip Leader certification qualifies the holder to lead day trips in conditions within their paddling skills certification. The minimum paddling skill certifications prerequisites are for: 

• Canoeists – ORCKA Basic Canoeing (or Level 4)
• Moving Water canoeists – ORCKA Moving Water Canoeing Level 2
• Voyageur canoeists – ORCKA Voyageur Canoeing Level 2
• Kayakers – Flatwater Kayaking (or Level B)
• Moving Water kayakers – ORCKA Moving Water Kayaking Level 2
• Stand Up paddlers – ORCKA Stand Up Paddling Level 2

 The Day Trip Leader is to be completed as one course and can be applied with any of these ORCKA canoeing, kayaking or stand up paddling certifications, as applicable. Take advantage of this online course - a minimum investment of time (over two shorter days and course homework). You do not need to be an ORCKA member for this course. Add to your tool box with more paddling leadership skills!

Note: ORCKA Members can purchase Trip Leader Insurance. Renew or Join ORCKA at https://www.orcka.ca/membership. Once you have a current membership, Login to your Account, select ‘Trip Leader Admin’, follow the instructions and click the Trip Leader Insurance button to be covered while leading trips, as appropriate to your level of certification. In this case, a “Trip” is a trip event that is not an ORCKA course.
