Warm Welcome To All New and Returning Club Members
We currently have over 280 club members registered for the 2012 paddling season, including over 70 new members and several "ex-members" from years gone by that are returning to paddling this year. Welcome all, to what we hope will be another great year of paddling adventures.
Thanks to an abnormally early thaw, the paddling season has already started BUT lets not forget that the water is still COLD. If you no longer find yourself listed as a current (2012) year club member it is likely because all unrenewed 2011 memberships lapsed as of April 30 th., and, in accordance with the Club Constitution, have therefore been deleted.

Constance Creek, An Early Season Paddle
![]() |
Once it was confirmed that the ice was off the creek, a bunch of flatwater paddlers set out on Sunday morning, March 25th to paddle Constance Creek,, not sure if its a record as an early seaon trip, thanks to the recent heat wave, but it was the first trip of the year and a goodly chance to get warmed up and stretch out those long dormant muscles. For our efforts we got to see a HUGE Blue Herron, groups of Canada Geese (home at last from southern climes) a soaring Eagle and several turtles and many 'plopping' fish. |
Having fun on my “SUP”
Last summer I introduced a Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) into my life... and its full speed ahead - no looking back! My paddleboard is 11’6” long, 30” wide and weighs in at 29 lbs which is a whole 100 lbs lighter than me. Weight was a hugely important factor in buying my SUP as I consider myself a “lightweight” paddler who had become a tad disheartened struggling with the weight of throwing much too heavy flatwater or whitewater canoes around or loading them on my vehicle.
Week-Day Paddling Opportunities in 2012
Following on from some fun trips in 2011 I would again like to invite Club paddlers who are interested, to think about paddling during the week (Monday through Friday)
RSVP your availability.....
Please CHECK your personal member coordinates ..
We experience, from time to time, rejected messages because a member's e-mail address is no longer valid. We don't want you to miss out on any important messages which are generated, particularly at this time of year as there is a lot going on to plan and organize winter social events, training opportunities, planning meetings etc., and not too far away, canoeing trips too!
Intrepid paddlers take on the Petite Nation
(Dec 2011)
Not yet ready to hang up the paddling gear, six intrepid paddlers take on the Petite Nation on December 11 with the thermometer hovering around minus 5.
With the gauge running at 30, the Upper Canyon and Second Canyon provided some challenging rapids and a few chilly swims.

Health and Safety Issues – Wilderness First-Aid
It is generally well accepted that a first-aid kit is a constant companion on canoe trips (evening, day long or extended camping trips too) ..... but there are some fundamental questions and factors that we should all consider in planning and preparing for our canoeing adventures:
Moose-Fest Whitewater Paddling in Old Forge, NY
Moose-Fest is always the first weekend after Thanksgiving. For those who are curious about the Moose, after the exciting video footage featured in "This Is Canoeing" -- here is a trip report from a YCCC member who caught this festival!
2011 YMCA / YWCA Letter to YCCC Members
As a 'Y' club - we use YMCA-YWCA policies in our constitution and guidelines.
YCCC members are encouraged to read the letter (attached below) from the YMCA / YWCA re:
1. Support for our shed relocation process
2. Application of transportation regulations to YCCC trips (per Y risk management plan and operating requirements)
3. Y social media practices (see 2nd attachment: An example of Y social media policy used by Y camping staff.)
Thanks to our Y staff contact for providing this letter and information to guide us in our operations.
