The RACCC is a diverse and inclusive canoe club for adults and families. We have over 270 members of all ages and skill levels, over 250 events each year offered through our flatwater, whitewater, and family programs, as well as numerous training opportunities.

Brent to Kiosk (Algonquin North) July 2012

              

 For the sunny July 13/14/15th weekend, a dozen of us recreated a trip Paul adored from years yore, crossing the North of Algonquin Park from Kiosk on Lake Kioshkokwi to Brent on Cedar Lake. To make this happen was a logistical feat in itself as it required a last-minute trip change by another group of paddlers led by Suzanne Chalifour (Group A) to begin the same trip as ourselves a day earlier and in the reverse direction. This allowed us to meet halfway, at Cauchon Lake, exchange car keys and have our cars shuttled down to Brent, where our chauffeurs’ rides were awaiting

Playing Safe:  YCCCers & Whitewater Rescue Training

Friday the 13th was a lucky day for several YCCC members who found themselves immersed (literally and figuratively) in a full weekend of intense river rescue training.

Everyone agreed that the unbelievable number of skills we had learned in only two/four days was an amazing experience, and that even with all the practice, completing this course was just the starting point.

Waterfront Course July 14th

On one of the hottest days of the year seven of us were at Petrie Island beach learning to canoe. We learned how to make the canoe go in a straight line and turn safely. When we got too hot we resorted to swimming, the sponge toss game or paddling with our hands. Before we were finished we had filled the water guns. Paddington forgot his hat and that wasn't good! Here you can see a picture of us in our cool shades.

Canoes Letter June 1998

Please click on the attachment to read the June 1998 Canoes Letter.  In it is an article on the life of Louis Bonnenfant, founder of the YCCC.  It is also interesting to see how a number of members active in the club  in 1998 are still active with the club in 2012.  Near the end of the newsletter is the club paddling schedule for 1998 which can be compared and contrasted to our current schedule.

Paddle to Baie Black on July 11

July 11 was yet another of the many hot sunny days we have had this summer. We started from Morris Island Conservation Area and paddled across to Baie Black on the Quebec side. There was very little current perceptible doing the traverse.

YCCC Pumphouse Paddlers caught on CBC!

A bunch (herd, flock, gaggle, school?) of YCCCer's were paddling (WhiteWater Wednesdays) at the Pumphouse and were caught on video for this news report:

Petawawa River WW Trip

On Tuesday, July 3rd our group of ten whitewater paddlers met at the RA centre to assemble our gear for our coming weekend trip. We found what we needed.
 
On Friday, July 6th we met again at the RA centre before 8 am. We packed our food into barrels, loaded our canoes onto vehicles and car-pooled our way to the Petawawa River. Only three of us had done this trip before. Mark Scott was our leader and he has been leading this trip for about 25 years! We stopped at Tim Hortons for breakfast. We left one car at Lake McManus on our way to Lake Traverse. It would be there when we finished paddling the river 50 km later.

Waterfront Canoe Course for Parents & Children Report

On June 30th twelve people took part in the first YCCC Paddle Canada Waterfront canoe course at Petrie Island park. We were four children, two teens, three adults, two instructors and one assistant instructor. The weather was perfect for a day at the beach.

A High Five to our Trip Leaders!

The paddling season is in full swing and this is a good time for applauding our trip leaders who are putting their time and effort into planning and leading awesome trips close by and far away.

Today, I recognize Paul G. and Helmut A., our prolific weekly trip leaders – they offer tried and true destinations with a sprinkle of the unknown. Come out and paddle – there is no better time than NOW!

Our three day trip began from launching at Misty Isles Lodge (click here for map) situated off the 1000 Islands Parkway at about 8 km east of Gananoque where all four of us arrived there at just before noon....
