Algonquin Fall Colour 2012

We got to the East Gate of Algonquin Park around noon Friday September 28. The plan was to have a hike at the Lookout trail first, and then get to the put in at Canoe Lake. One problem of the plan was that usually we would get our interior camping permit at the put in, which was about 30 km away from the hiking trail, but a permit was required in order to use park facilities. At the East Gate, park staff told us that we could buy a day pass at $16, and then at our put in when getting our camping permit, we could return the day pass and get our money back. The advice worked.

Chiniguchi August 2012
Chiniguchi is crown land to the east of Sudbury with beautiful scenery and old growth red pines. With no parking or camping fees, it is popular with private individuals and with many kids camps. With no campsite reservations and limited parking at the put-in, you keep your fingers crossed that things will go your way. (See photos at end.)

The annual French River trip ran from July 28 to August 4. There were four French River veterans on the trip along with two members who were going to experience the wonders of the French River and it's delta for the first time.
"The single blade inherently offers greater challenge. It's because of this challenge that the rewards are more satisfying."
Great quote and a neat article about a couple of canoeists pushing the limits of what can be paddled in a tandem canoe...or any canoe for that matter. Be sure to check out the photo and video documenting their run down the Green Narrows in North Carolina.

Dagmar’s August long weekend canoe trip to La Verendrye
Friday night eight of us arrived from a baking hot Ottawa after a 3.5 hr drive straight north, to a cool evening at Le Domaine on the edge of La Verendrye park. Had a relaxed first night camping in a busy little grassy, treed area by the park office, beach and lake, waking up to dew on the grass.
