Just a wee caveat to consider - Beacons may provide a useful emergency back-up system in some situations but for wilderness emergency communications I would strongly urge consideration of a satelite phone. Why? - well for starters beacons don't afford two-way communications that are extremely comforting in order to know you have been heard, exchange information on status, needs, resources, etc AND for such low grade 'emergency' communications such as modified exit schedules that do not require calling out the 'cavalry' at CFB Trenton. Remember that once you set off a beacon you are launching a major (potentially very expensive) response network. |
